Chronic Obstructive Pullmonary Disease, or COPD, is a progressive disease that makes it difficult to breath. This indicator shows the rate of visits to emergency departments in New Jersey due to COPD. Data come from the New Jersey Hospital Discharge Data Collection System (NJDDCS) with support from New Solutions, Inc. All disorders are classified according to the Clinical Classifications Software 2014 (Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project, AHRQ).
Why is this important?
COPD is a major health concern in our communities and is primarily caused by cigarette smoking.
